The Vandals have always held a special place in the hearts of Asinine Radio. Look What I Almost Stepped In was my first introduction to The Vandals, specifically “Jackass”. While watching some surf / skate videos on Fuse TV the song “Jackass” came on and I was hooked. After downloading the album of Kazaa it became a staple in my music playlists for ages.
The Vandals do a fantastic job at 2 things. Making punk music fun and having fun while making punk music. They aren’t the fastest, hardest, or most technical but damn they can write songs that show us just how talented they truly are. They been around since forever and have so many songs under their belt. Songs like “Go” show us they can be straight up punk and still continue to write some super siq songs.
Being The Vandals also comes with the territory of being controversial. The song “Fourteen” is no exception and seems to pride itself on just being a weird, catchy, pervert punk song that you can’t help but sing along to.
I don’t think The Vandals will ever stop being good. With every year they’ve been in existence they’ve just gotten better at different things. LWIASI isn’t their most “punk” album or their most well received but I’ll be damned if it’s not a powerhouse to be reckoned with! So check it out if you like fun music. Or just music in general ‘cus there’s a little something for everyone here.
