Podcast Episode 92

Here at Asinine Radio we really can’t go more than about a minute without talking about Blink 182 or Blink related material. Enter Box Car Racer.

Box Car Racer was a short lived side thang by Blink members Tom Delonge and Travis Barker. This sort of left the third member out in the cold. But I digress.

I do think side projects are a healthy and productive outlet for artists. Side projects allow artists to venture out of their comfort zone and experiment with emotions and ideas that may not have been a good fit for their main squeeze. Box Car Racer was that outlet.

This album is both the best and worst thing that happened to Blink. Because of this album Blink gave us their self titled album, which is so amazeballs I can’t even. However, with great power comes great responsibility and because of this album we saw the eventual collapse of America’s sweethearts.

This album is pretty cool, overall. I don’t think it’s great or anything spectacular but there are more than a couple tracks that are pretty damn good. Depressingly, the song, for me, that didn’t really fit well with the album’s overall tone was the only song that featured Mark Hoppus.

This album was also a great foreshadowing of what was to become of Delonge’s musical endeavors. The eclectic nature of Delonge’s Angels And Airwaves can be heard scattered throughout these songs. Check this album out if you haven’t already. Especially if you, like us, have an unhealthy obsession with Blink.
