So tell me wuts up wit dis LBC thang. This weeks beer is straight outta Beachwood Brewing located in Long Beach, California. Beachwood is a highly decorated brewery including being named large brewpub and large brewer of the year at the 2014 Great American Beer Festival. They have recently opened a production brewery in Huntington Beach and have branched off with Lambic inspired beer with Beachwood Blendery. Giving back is also something Beachwood is known for with the yearly Ales for ALS campaign & the Pliny fights cancer charity raffle.

Amalgamator is this weeks beer, a west coast-style IPA coming in at 7.1% abv and 99+ ibu’s. This is the first time this beer has been available in six packs thanks to the new production brewery. A light base of American 2-row let’s the hops take center stage in true west coast fashion. Kettle hops include Amarillo, Warrior and Columbus, but the real star of the show is Mosaic. Used both in the kettle and for a heavy dry hop, mosaic showcases subtle passion fruit and blueberry notes. The other hops help round out the beer with dank resin and citrus flavors and aromas. Finishing dry with a clean but firm bitterness, Amalgamator is a great example of what a west coast-style IPA should be.

Remember to drink independent beer, and as Beachwood Brewing says “It matters who makes your beer.”
